Childhood Trauma

Childhood trauma refers to experiences that overwhelm a child's ability to cope, leaving a lasting impact on their sense of safety, self-worth, and connection to others. Trauma is not defined solely by what happened, but by how those experiences were processed and carried forward. Because of this, childhood trauma can look different for everyone. It may stem from abuse, neglect, loss, chronic criticism, family conflict, emotional invalidation, instability, or other experiences that left a child feeling unsafe, unsupported, or alone.

PTSD and Complex PTSD

Trauma and complex PTSD can develop after experiencing distressing or prolonged adverse events. The effects often extend beyond the original experience, impacting emotional well-being, relationships, self-esteem, and a sense of safety. Common signs may include anxiety, difficulty trusting others, perfectionism, chronic shame, negative self-beliefs, difficulty regulating emotions, persistent feelings of guilt, boundary challenges, dissociation, fear of abandonment, and relationship difficulties.

Relationship Anxiety

Relationship anxiety involves ongoing worry, self-doubt, and uncertainty within romantic relationships. It may show up as overthinking interactions, seeking reassurance, fear of rejection or abandonment, or difficulty feeling secure even when the relationship is stable and healthy. These patterns are often connected to attachment styles, past relational experiences, and underlying fears that can shape how safety and connection are experienced in relationships.

Sara is amazing. She has helped me in so many ways. I’ve worked with many therapists and never felt like therapy helped me until I met Sara. She has provided me with a safe place to talk openly and honestly without the fear of judgement. She has the ability to make me feel heard and validated while also keeping it real. She is the most knowledgeable person I know. To say she has changed my life for the better would be an absolute understatement.

Sara at Bonafide Therapy is incredible! She truly embodies person-centered care. She exudes compassion and empathy, which makes the creation of a safe space necessary for clients to be able to share their own truth to be realized very quickly, if not automatically. She is highly trained and an exceptional therapist. I highly recommend Bonafide Therapy for anyone interested is starting the process or transitioning from previous therapeutic work.
